Midsummer House is a Victorian villa built beside the banks of the River Cam and on Midsummer Common in the historic university city of Cambridge. In October 2015, head chef Daniel Clifford was awarded the prestigious award of Chefs Chef of the Year at the 2015/16 AA awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Daniel Clifford was praised for turning Midsummer House into one of the country's finest restaurants, while being an "inspiration to so many chefs at all levels". The River Cam plays a large part in the restaurant’s history and today the stretch of river outside Midsummer House, used heavily for the College and University rowing clubs, is a hive of activity for diners to soak up as they enjoy drinks in the upstairs bar area. The iconic apple trees in the kitchen garden also have history, with Daniel Clifford featuring them in the restaurant’s signature dish. The scallop, truffle and apple concoction features on the menu all year round. Over the years the style of food has developed, but the techniques and passion that infuse every dish to reach the pass at Midsummer House have remained the same.
